Dropped Object Surveys

K2 offers the Dropped Object Prevention Scheme (DROPS) to ensure a safe working environment in potentially hazardous areas, such as the drill floor or pipe deck where overhead cranes are constantly operating, or after shutdown maintenance has been performed. The survey covers all areas posing potential harm or damage to personnel and equipment. These include derrick, substructure, moon pool and cranes.

The survey can take the form of a “sweep” of the structure to ensure all “loose” items are removed. A more comprehensive DROPS survey ensures full equipment inventory, rectification of non-conforming items and training of staff to conduct periodic on-site inspections.

Thermo-Graphic Surveys

Thermal imaging is a technology that has been available in the industry for some time. It is a very useful way of detecting faults that are not visible to the naked eye, by way of heat mapping.

While the Rig auditor is able to capture faults through visually inspecting systems and components that are found in the rig, Thermo-Graphic images will provide him with the opportunity to capture faults that may in time, result in the catastrophic failure of equipment.

The years of experience and skills acquired by our Senior Auditors, provide them with the ability to interpret these thermal images accurately and thoroughly, which leaves almost nothing uncovered during a Thermo-Graphic Survey. Examples of faults that a Thermo-Graphic Survey can uncover are:

• Overloaded motors.
• Blocked and flawed water-cooling systems.
• Blocked, flawed, or constricted piping systems.
• Seizing bearings and hot spots in bearings.
• Generator and belt misalignment.
• Phase Imbalances.
• Broken Insulation.
• High Resistance.
• Overloaded power systems, including lighting and SCR units.

Whether it is provided as a service by itself or as part of a Rig Audit, Rig operators will benefit greatly from a Thermo-graphic Survey as it definitely reduces the chances of the crew experiencing downtime.
