Rope access is fast becoming the leading form of work positioning in industries across the globe. It allows safe and rapid access to remote locations for a wide range of inspection, testing and structural engineering functions. Industrial
Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA) is the world's leading authority on
rope access and ensures members adhere to strict guidelines which conform with international standards for working at height. K2 is a full member of IRATA and the largest trainer of personnel in South East Asia. The methods used in
rope access have evolved from specialised climbing and caving techniques with industrial applications being integrated to ensure high levels of safety and industry compliance.
The industry has an exemplary safety record, which is derived from rigourous adherence to key safety requirements. They include:
- Training and assessment by an independent examiner.
- Mandatory supervision by an experienced and qualified technician (Level III).
- Rigourous equipment management.
- 3rd-party auditing of the member company by IRATA to ensure compliance.
- Strict guidelines and procedures to identify and reduce risks.
Utilising
rope access, K2 provides a broad range of engineering support services to the offshore industry. Our teams are qualified and experienced in welding, electrical systems, high-pressure coating removal and application, as well as mechanical and rigging abilities. This unique combination of skills and methodologies has enabled K2 to provide maintenance and repair services to a long list of offshore operators.
Our capabilities:
- Installation of corrosion prevention and protection systems such as IEV's MGP (Marine Growth Preventor) and Armawrap riser protection system. These are 2 systems that K2 has successfully installed within splash zones. Given the access restrictions, K2 rope access technicians are the obvious choice for such applications.
- Clockspring permanent composite repair system K2 is an approved applier of the Clockspring system, a composite repair system used to rejuvenate corroded pipes that would otherwise have to be replaced. In many cases, these pipes are located in remote locations that can only be accessed by K2 engineers.
- Blasting and painting K2 offers qualified and experienced rope access painting teams for remote locations. K2 is the most cost-effective solution for small isolated areas of repair or on specific structures, such as flare tips.
- Hot works K2 provides experienced and qualified personnel for a range of welding, cutting and grinding work in almost any location.
- Mechanical/Engineering support provides support to offshore operators and contractors in a variety of situations:
- Flare tip replacement
- Riser clamp removal and replacement
- Spool bracket installation on the side of FPSO
- Riser hook-up on FPSO
- Removal of redundant steel and materials
- Removal of old and installation of new cable tray
- Electrical Qualified and experienced electrical personnel are available to support your operations and assist with the installation of new electrical components or providing support with EX surveys and testing.
What are the benefits of rope access?
- Rapid installation and dismantling of the access system.
- Generates considerable cost savings due to the time saved.
- Single contact point for the client as rope access technicians provide access and undertake the required work.
- Minimal disruption to other ongoing operations unlike traditional forms of access that require large amounts of equipment and manpower.
Rope access is now accepted by the majority of the world's leading oil, gas, construction and power generation companies including: Shell, BP, Total, Exxon, Bovis, Texaco, Chevron, Petronas.
