Vendor Inspection, Verification And Expediting Services

Introduction:

Quality control, vendor inspection and expediting are an integral part of project purchasing activities. K2 offers a complete range of services, comprising of engineering inspections of mechanical and electrical equipment at the vendor's works, complete quality control of plate and tubular steel mills, pre-shipment inspection for letter of credit purposes, expediting at vendor's works and technical capability audits.

From ongoing maintenance to new construction projects, our inspection and expediting services provide confidence that purchased equipment will arrive when required and to the client's specification.

A dedicated office-based coordinator is assigned to every project to manage all call-offs received the client in a timely, precise and efficient manner. To facilitate this, K2 employs a complete computerised management control system, known as AMIS, for our vendor inspection and expediting services. AMIS is a software programme developed by Velosi as a complete quality management package for vendor inspection and expedition of engineered material and equipment. It optimises administration efficiency and automates many functions, such as issue of assignments, budgetary control, tracking of non-conformances, order status, scheduling of visits and initial contact with manufacturer.

Our field inspectors are also familiar with working in accordance with a wide variety of standards/specifications and report forms as a result of our extensive international client base. All reports are technically reviewed for completeness and correctness by the local Velosi office prior to client submission. To address clients' need for timeliness of report submission, we have established a set of in-house Key Performance Indicator targets, one of which covers the turnaround or submission time of reports.

K2 aims to help our clients improve quality standards in a speedy, professional and efficient manner. By providing experienced technical personnel from an extensive international network of qualified and internally assessed inspectors, we provide a comprehensive range of cost-effective services to our clients.

Our Services:

Vendor Inspection

Vendor inspection, also known as source or 3rd-party inspection, covers inspection activities performed at the manufacturer's work, on all types of mechanical, electrical, electronic and instrumentation equipment purchased by clients within the petrochemical, oil and gas, pharmaceutical and mining industries.

K2 is able to accommodate inspection activities for a single order, as well as multiple orders for an entire project. The scope or level of inspection is determined by the client's requirements which are normally controlled by a Quality Plan. This scope can range from the final inspection to an intensive inspection regime, covering the pre-production meeting, identification and inspection of all raw materials, inspection at all prescribed hold-point stages, witnessing of all tests, verification of all documentation and certificates, and the final release inspection.

Our inspection activities are performed by our resource base of field engineers and our global network of offices. All field engineers are inducted in accordance with our quality management system and are assessed on an ongoing basis for capability and competency. This has a direct, positive impact on the quality of the inspection services we provide.

Field And Deck Expediting

Today, expediting is an integral part of the procurement process. In the past, expediting has been considered a corrective function rather than a preventive function. However, as both the schedule and pricing of projects continue to become increasingly critical, expediting should be incorporated into the project planning at the onset to ensure delivery at the required time.

Expediting is a continuous process, commencing at the time of order placement, to ensure that final delivery of goods and documentation to the job site is achieved in the shortest possible time. It should be implemented independently of inspection activities and carried out by experienced professional field expeditors who have sufficient understanding of the material on order. This enables them to work with the manufacturer to minimise the time frame for each manufacturing phase, as much as is physically and financially possible.

Depending on client requirements, expediting services may apply at different stages of a project, such as fabrication and assembly, rectification work, material deficit, failure on test or inspection, shipment and packing, and submission of documentation.

Technical Capability Audits

K2 has a good relationship with the vast majority of oil and gas-related vendors around the world. Our QA engineers are experienced in carrying out pre-contract award surveys, supplier evaluations, 3rd-party quality assurance audits and vendor surveillance for these manufacturers.

This can be a very useful tool for clients who are considering placing orders with unfamiliar suppliers, or who from previous experience or knowledge, have reservations placing an order with a vendor. In addition, it maybe beneficial to perform a full assessment of a manufacturer once a problematic order has been completed, as part of a "lessons learnt" exercise.

Supplier evaluation will include, though not be limited to, details of the vendor's quality system, traceability, capacity, current workload, manpower, affiliation, history/client base, and number of personnel and their qualifications.

Import Supervision

Depending on client or local legislative requirements, the scope for import supervision or pre-shipment inspection may include the verification of goods with respect to quality, quantity, export market price, laboratory testing and analysis, import eligibility, labeling and value for customs purposes.

Quality and quantity inspection may also be performed to verify product conformity to contractual specifications, and accuracy of value and customs tariff code for customs purposes, packing review and loading supervision.
